History and Purpose
The Russian Welfare Society (RWS) was established to cater for the needs of,
and provide support and services to Victorians of Russian or Slavic origin.
1960 year
With a history of 50 years service, our not-for-profit organisation is supported by the
Commonwealth Government through the Department of Health and Ageing, and other departments,
as well as the Victorian Government Department of Human Services, the Victorian Multicultural
Commission and Local Government bodies as well as Philanthropic Trusts, Corporations and individual donors.
1968 year
RWS is an Income Tax Exempt Charitable Entity and a registered Deductible Gift Recipient under
the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997. Our Australian Business Number is 24 829 385 690
1972 year
The St John of Kronstadt Russian Welfare Society is registered as an Incorporated Association under
the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 (No A00 11665H)
Our global strategy is reviewed bi-annually and updated each year in Strategic Planning Seminars.
The organisation also develops a three year Business Plan to ensure the long term viability of Russian Welfare.
1985 year
A Multicultural Organisation
Our employees speak a total of 14 languages including all the languages of our residents and we also
enjoy the support of dedicated volunteers who generously give of their time and skills as we assist people from
fifteen different nationalities throughout Victoria.
